About Rainbow Run: Taking place both in-person and virtually, Callen-Lorde’s Rainbow Run is a 5K or 10K fun run/leisure walk promoting health and wellness while supporting the lifesaving work of Callen-Lorde Community Health Center!
This year, the Rainbow Run will take place in person on Saturday, May 4 in Manhattan’s Hudson River Park (Pier 46) at 10am (gathering at 9am) or virtually, wherever you are, anytime between May 4 and May 12.
Callen-Lorde is looking for both volunteers and runners from OPEN Finance. Rainbow Run Volunteer Opportunities

- Set-up: Volunteers are needed to help transport items (tables/chairs/signs) to the tent area on Pier 46. The position requires some moderate lifting, up to 30 lbs.
- Time: 8:00-9:00am
- Location: Hudson River Park/Pier 46 (meet at the end of the pier)
- # of volunteers: 6 ppl
- Registration: Be behind the scenes and see how the run/walk begins! This is the first stop for racers as they pick up their materials. Duties include checking in participants, distributing bibs, handing out incentives, answering questions, providing race information and keeping lines organized. The position requires some moderate lifting, up to 30 lbs.
- Time: 8:30-10:30am
- Location: Hudson River Park/Pier 46 (meet at the end of the pier)
- # of volunteers: 10 ppl
- Starting and Finish Line:
- Starting Line: Move participants to the starting line and cheer them on as they begin!
- Finish Line: Greet racers as they cross the finish line with excitement and cold bottles of water. Keep everyone moving efficiently through the finish line to the post-race area. Other duties include opening cases and restocking bottled water.
- Time: 9:00-12:30pm
- Location: Hudson River Park/Pier 46 (meet at the end of the pier)
- # of volunteers: 4 ppl
- Course: Direct participants and keep them on course. Be a key player in maintaining the excitement and momentum throughout the course. Duties include directing the participants along the course, hyping up, screaming, cheering, singing — anything to bring out a smile on Rainbow Racers’ faces! Standing for long periods is required, jumping with excitement is encouraged, and creating posters with silly sayings is optional.
- Time: 9:00-12:30pm
- Location: Hudson River Park – Volunteers will be stationed along the course
- # of volunteers: 10-25 ppl
- Clean-up and Breakdown: When all is said and done and we have to say goodbye to our great event until next year, we need volunteers to help pack up the registration area. Duties include taking down signs, cleaning trash from the surrounding area and transporting items back to vehicles. Standing, bending, lifting 30 lbs. and getting a little dirty are all required.
